Bat Roost Boxes

We have bats near our house. Microbats to be precise. Not everyone's favourite critter I'm sure - but important to the ecosystem and they eat mozzies!

Very easy to make. All you need is a circular saw, some small nails with blind heads (I used galvanised C1 brads) and non-toxic wood glue.

Materials are timber and some seat-belt width webbing for a hinge.

The reason I say circular saw, is you can set the depth to cut grooves on regular intervals (e.g. 10mm apart) on the inside so the bats have something to hang onto!

They also need to land on a vertical surface and then climb up - so the ladder extends out the bottom!

The wood glue is important - you want to keep the inside dry and sealing the joints will help. Non-toxic is key - I used Aquadere.

Plans available here - https://batsrule-helpsavewildlife.blogspot.com/2015/05/building-nest-box-for-microbats.html

Not super keen to get photos of the contents - but I'll try one day!
